Difference Between Social Security SSI And Social Security Benefits Programs

The social security benefits and SSI programs are administered by the same department however they are very different. First of all the Social Security SSI is not based on the prior work of the applicant or on the prior work of their family members.

Secondly unlike the benefits program, SSI is funded by the general taxation funds. Most of the states allow the SSI beneficiaries to avail Medicaid which is not the case with the people in the benefits programs.

Similarly the SSI benefits also involve the food stamps in all states except California, which is not he case with the benefits programs.
