Electronic Scrap Recycling
The environmental problems associated with disposing of electronic scrap in landfills and the potential risks inherent in leaking sensitive company data have not gone un-noticed. Since 2004, the EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive has tackled the rising tide of electronic scrap by requiring manufacturers to take back equipment for the express purpose of electronic scrap recycling. This procedure has been aided by improvements in technology which allow for the effective dissolving of solder used in circuit boards yet have no effect on the performance of the electronic components. This process allows for almost 100% recoverability of the precious metals used in the manufacture of electronic components.
