The DFAS Chart Determines Military Pay

From the moment you begin boot camp as a member of the army, navy, air force or marines, you will receive this monthly stipend. Along with free room and board and meals (albeit from the barracks and mess hall), this salary may seem well worth it. When you enter the military, you are considered nothing more than a “Private” in ranking which puts you the lowest man/woman on the totem pole, thus earning the smallest amount of pay. Generally, a private with less than one year of military service, according to the military pay chart DFAS will receive $1275/month in salary. Once you have completed certain tasks (boot camp, tests, etc.), your superior officers will change your rank, which moves you up the totem pole, which in turn increases your monthly stipend.
