America is not the only country that has notaries. Many other countries, particularly in Europe, use these members of the legal community, and revere their service. In the Netherlands, the notary has much more power, and are actually given their title from the King himself. They are also able to deal in areas of law for the government, whereas in the States it is much less likely for that to happen. Although America derived this position from Europe, it is not nearly as prestigious. The notary exam can be taken by any member of the legal community who has been with the BAR for five years or more.
